Progress Report on Interlinked Modeling (ILM 2024)

Closed 21 Jun 2024

Opened 7 May 2024

Overview

ENTSOG and ENTSO-E have published their Interlinked Model (ILM) 2024 progress report. This report delivers a dual assessment methodology for electricity and hydrogen. It also includes recommendations for the use of integrated models in the Cost Benefit Analyses of ENTSO-E and ENTSOG's respective Ten-Year Network Development Plans (TYNDPs).

To reach the decarbonisation objectives set by the European Union, the future energy system is a system based on strong cooperation amongst different energy systems at the transmission and distribution levels. An increasingly integrated system can offer flexibility, allowing more efficient use of energy sources and increased uptake of carbon-neutral energy. In this context, understanding the behaviour of such a system becomes paramount.

The report released today presents a new milestone on coordinated system planning across sectors, in the context of fulfilling Article 11 of Regulation 2022/869. The report focuses on three main pillars:

  • The background of system integration,
  • The Modelling choices made and the insights guiding these choices,
  • The CBA methodologies considered/developed and the CBA results for various types of infrastructure projects across the two sectors linked (hydrogen and electricity).

Along with the possibility to comment on the full document of the Implementation Guidelines, ENTSO-E and ENTSOG have prepared questions dedicated to some specific topics to receive concrete feedback.
